Whitehaven Plaza Shopping Center is located one quarter mile south of Graceland, the home of Elvis Presley, in Memphis, TN. Sitting on 30 acres and comprising 7 buildings, the plaza offers a wide variety of conveniences including retail and grocery shopping, dining, banking, and an exercise facility. The center is anchored by Ike’s Discount, Piccadilly, and Radio Shack with out-parcels including McDonald’s, Baskin Robbins Ice Cream, and Aldi.
Whitehaven Plaza has completed construction and announces the opening of Blades, a new 1,000 square foot full service barbershop and haircut facility. The shop is scheduled to open in late February, 2011. Blades is operated locally and owned by Charles Jackson.
Whitehaven Plaza has completed construction and announces the opening of Williams Dance Academy. The academy is ten years old and has relocated to the Plaza as part of an expansion. Williams Dance is locally owned and operated by Tevita Williams who is a member of Dance Educators of America. The Academy teaches boys and girls in multiple dance styles including ballet, modern dance, jazz dance, hip-hop, and baton.
Whitehaven Plaza has begun the demolition of a former Dillard’s building which was formerly located in the Plaza. The 60,000 square foot building has been vacant and repeated attempts to lease and or redevelop the structure have been unsuccessful. As a result, Finard made the decision and the investment to demo the building in order to make way for continuing improvements at the shopping center. In recent years Finard has added Aldi, the French Rivera Spa, a new free standing Baskin Robbins, and a new McDonald’s to the center.
The Memphis office began the Scholarship of Excellence program in 2008. It awards $25,000 annually—$5,000 each to five (5) local high school seniors who excel in areas of academics and community involvement.
The 2010 recipients are NICHOLAS LUCKEY, Hillcrest High School, University of Tennessee at Chattanooga; DARIUS HANKINS, East High School, University of Memphis; SHELBY McKINLEY, Melrose High School, Middle Tennessee State University; HEATHER RICE, Whitehaven High School, University of Memphis; CEDRIC HUNT, II, Melrose High School, Middle Tennessee State University. An awards luncheon will be held on June 3, 2010.
