Community Activities

The people at Finard Properties are deeply involved in their communities. Beyond improving and beautifying the areas of our properties, we participate in our communities by providing scholarships and donations and directing and fundraising for charitable organizations. Scholarship of Excellence - University Mall, South Burlington, VT

University Mall has given away a total of $225,000 in scholarships to area students since 2001. University Mall will soon be awarding another $25,000 in scholarships to five area high school seniors. Each student will receive $5,000 toward their first year of college. University Mall’s Scholarship of Excellence is designed to be awarded to students who embody excellence in academics, leadership, and community service. The recipients and their families will attend a luncheon and awards ceremony held at the Mall on Wednesday, May 27, 2009 at 12 Noon.

Here are this year’s 5 recipients and their major accomplishments:

SARAH GUILLOT, daughter of John and Elaine Guillot of Morrisville, Vermont, is a senior at Peoples Academy, is recognized for her work as a mentor and a tutor and is also Vice President of her school’s National Honor Society. Sarah plans on attending Williams College.

JULIA HAYER, daughter of Nick Hayer and Linda Hagens of Warren, Vermont, is a student at Harwood Union High School, and has enjoyed work with the InterAct Rotary Club and the Rwanda Educational Partnership program. Julia’s school choice is Whitman College.

JUSTIN LALUMIERE, son of Lewis and Karolyn Lalumiere of Ferrisburgh, Vermont, is a senior at Vergennes Union High School. Justin has volunteered with the Boy Scouts of America and the Future Farmers of America and is active with the Big Brother Mentoring Program. He will be attending the University of New Hampshire this fall.

AMY MALINOWSKI, daughter of John and Donna Malinowski of Jericho, Vermont, currently attends Mount Mansfield Union High School and is recognized for her recent efforts as the founding President of the SHAPE Club as well as work with the Vermont Teen Leadership Safety Program. Amy plans to attend Babson College in the fall of 2009.

SAMUEL PHELPS, son of Roger Phelps and Martha Rice of South Burlington, Vermont, is currently a student at South Burlington High School. Sam has been an active Student Council member and Freshman mentor and has also volunteered with the American Red Cross and Habitat for Humanity. Sam will be attending Brown University.

Scholarship of Excellence - Poplar Plaza, Memphis, TN

Poplar Plaza began their Scholarship program in 2008; they too, give away $25,000 annually to local high school seniors who excel in areas of academics and community involvement.Click here to view
